My
expression is very serious. When I laugh, it is unintentional and I always apologise,
very politely. I breath carefully (a little at a time), and dance very rarely.
When walking, I hold my ribs and look steadily behind me. Erik Satie
I think the sadness present in Argentine music is very oriental. Why is tango oriental music?
Astor Piazzolla

“Romance de Tango,” Leonardo Suarez Paz’s newest production from his Cuartetango Music + Dance Company, features six dancers, the Cuartetango String Quartet, a bandoneonist, a pianist, and a singer. The production incorporates all expressions of the tango art: music, poetry, song, and dance in an exciting evening of traditional and Nuevo Tango.
Available as a guest singer with this production is one of Argentina's most exciting tango artists, Beatriz Suarez Paz, currently the voice to the Suarez Paz Quintet in Buenos Aires, conducted by Fernando Suarez Paz, Leonardo's father and former lead violinist for Astor Piazzolla's famous Nuevo Tango Quintet.
The members of Cuartetango precisely shape the texture and spirit of the authentic tango sound through the works of Astor Piazzolla, Osvaldo Pugliese, Miguel De Caro, Osvaldo Montes, Néstor Marconi, and many other composers. Reconnecting with the past, they break new ground with a daring repertoire: from Tango Barocco to post-Piazzolla’s Nuevo Tangos. The quartet dazzles with the mastery of this exquisite concert genre.
The only string quartet of its kind to devote itself to the music of tango, Cuartetango recently returned from a triumphant, sold-out tour of Argentina and the United States. They have performed at the Chautauqua Institution in upstate New York, Newark Symphony Hall, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, New York’s famed jazz club Birdland with Jim Hall, at the annual Buenos Aires Tango Festival, and in Argentina’s grand opera house, Teatro Colon, at the invitation of the Buenos Aires Secretariat of Culture.
